By the warmth of a crackling fire, she's comforted by his presence. But it's his rugged scent that stirs something in her she's never felt before.

Bear shifter Powell sensed the instant he held her that Olivia was his mate. He also knew she had the untapped powers to discover her true shifting nature—if only he could convince her to trust in him, and to believe in herself. Now the one thing that stands to threaten their healing mating hunger is Olivia's distrusting and vigilant pack. A pack prepared to do anything to get her back.

But there is no danger as strong, no desire so liberating as what Powell is bringing out in her—because Olivia can finally see where her destiny lies.

Spotlight on The Seeing Place #anewkindofromance #excerpt @EdenWalking

Please welcome talented author Aziza Eden Walker and her book, The Seeing Place.  Eden is nicknamed Aziza or "beloved" and writes with a setting in Africa. Her stories are hot, humorous, and heartfelt.
Her books feature young, self-assured and independent women who work, play and, of course, fall madly in love in vibrant African cities from Lagos to Cape Town. Ankara men are confident, emotionally expressive and not afraid of independent and sexually assertive women. Her sensuous books challenge romance stereotypes and empower women to love themselves in their search for love.
Enjoy The Seeing Place and its sequel This Crazy Paradise today.

The Seeing Place from Ankara Press follows hot-shot producer Thuli Poni is holding auditions for her latest play in Cape Town. Andile Sebe is an up-and-coming star, just waiting for his big break. Thuli casts Andile and challenges him to link his painful past with the role he is portraying, leading him to open up to her. The two fall for each other and a passionate romance ensues.
But when auditions open for Sins of the Fathers, the most-watched TV show in South Africa, Thuli turns cold. Will she play a part in Andile’s rise to fame, or will she hinder it?
This is a story about how love can triumph against the odds if we stay humble, take risks and are willing to learn. The Seeing Place offers a very different kind of romance – between a powerful woman and a man who wants something only she can offer.

That woman’s face was incredibly familiar … And she was beginning to address him. It was her. No doubt about it. Andile froze.
Damn, she’s lovely. She was wearing a kind of skin-coloured chiffon number that made her look almost naked.
What the hell is she doing here? Was she Gordon Tshabalala’s buddy? Or, heaven forbid, his sister or his wife?
“Yes,” he stuttered, hearing her say his name.
“My name is Thuli Poni.” She cleared her throat. OK, it looked like she was going to pretend they’d never met. “I am the producer and casting director here.”
First his heart leapt into his mouth and then it ricocheted down to his feet, with an almighty clang.
“How do you do?” he said politely, thanking God and his theatrical training that he could play nonchalant.
“Perhaps we could have a brief word before you begin. You are aware that these are the auditions for The Lions at Night?”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“And you are auditioning for the role of David Ranaka, the Reverend?”
“Correct.” He marvelled that his voice was holding up so well.
“Then why, may I ask, are you dressed so stylishly? The character is a rascal and a jailbird.”
“Doesn’t mean he can’t be a snappy dresser.”
“Explain.”
“Well, I don’t have a penny to my name and I managed to source this suit, so.”
“Don’t get sassy, wena.” It was Gordon, tapping a pen on the desk. Andile ignored the comment.
“Why are you dressed like that, Andile?” Gloria asked, rescuing him. “This is not The Matrix.”
“Ranaka has resources. He’s no fool. He’s an inveterate ladies’ man, so he’s likely to have a few tricks up his sleeve. And some stylish outfits.”
Thuli seemed to shift uneasily in her chair. Or perhaps, he thought, admiring her shapely leg slung over the seat in front of her, she was getting turned on. “Carry on,” was all she said.
“This is how he works it. It’s his suit for special occasions, for getting a girl, like this is mine for getting parts.”
Gordon snorted. Andile went on, “In the first scene, the one I’ll be reading from, we see him in full strutting mode. That’s why it’s such a shock to his wife later. She has no idea about this side of him. That he’s the lion at night. That’s the deception. All these years, she’s been loving him, thinking he’s the quiet one, meantime he’s more like the Long Street Festival.”
It was a foolish thing to do, alluding to their earlier meeting under these circumstances, but he couldn’t help himself. Besides, he was getting heartily sick of the attitude coming from the director’s table. What did they think this was, So You Think You Can Dance, wena?

“Go ahead,” Thuli said in a voice like ice. “Show us what you’ve got.”

#amwriting #plotting with W-structure in my House of #Tirgearryen T-shirt!

Welcome fellow writers and readers. Today I'm sharing my take on the W-structure for plotting.  I'm thrilled to be wearing my House of Tirgearryen T-shirt.  This generous gift from publishers Peter and Kemberlee Shortland is a huge inspiration while plotting my next book, Bittersweet Alliance, in the Donahue Cousins series for Tirgearr Publishing.
My synopsis for Bittersweet Alliance follows the W-structure. Each tip of the W is an act. Each book is stand-alone, but main characters from Deadly Alliance appear in Unholy Alliance. The same will be true in Bittersweet Alliance, my work-in-progress.  For me, the W-structure fits romantic suspense.
1.       Act 1: Trigger Event creates tension—the series of homicides. Series of problems from W1 to W2.
2.       Act 2:  A few clues unravel from W2 to W3. New ideas, positive momentum.
3.       Act 3:  Second triggering event deepens the problem.  The heroine becomes a target. W3 to W4.
4.       Act 4:  W4-- Dark moment, all is lost. W4 to W5, resolving the problem. New light, character growth, understanding. Final resolution.
The W-plot is anchored by five distinct turning points which are the tips of the “W”.  The series of events or phase connects each turning point with the next.  The writer moves the plot forward.  The “W” is a 4 act structure with the dark moment at W4.  There’s a beginning, middle, dark moment, and end.
Drivers are events that cause other events (events and decisions) in an act to occur.  In a romantic suspense actions require decisions by the hero and heroine who are wound into the event.  What they do causes more decisions to be made.  A clue causes a new set of decisions.  Things go downhill and reach rock bottom at turning point W4.  The resolution of the story ends the mystery combined with a happily ever after.
Here is another way to describe the actions:
Initial actionà decisionsà action 2à decisionsà action 3à decisionsà crisis actionà decesionsàfinal action.
The driver (or turning point) begins an act by pushing the story in a new direction.  The main characters explore facts/hunches/feelings which create the sequence of events that follow.  Drivers can be either actions (external) or decisions. Five turning points solidify the plot.
Every romantic suspense needs and overall through-line: The main mystery concerns the story goal.
Main character through-line: Hero and heroine resolve his and her inner conflicts.
Impact character through-line: the story influences the character.
Relationship through-line: changing relationship between characters.
Bittersweet Alliance.  Paige Kaloha learns a friend is missing. Talks to friend’s family and notifies a retired FBI operative, Gary Guhleman, who lives in her neighborhood. Guhleman pulls strings so that the FBI in Hawaii employs Danker Donahue.  Paige and Danker dated in the past. She’s reluctant to work with him.  They have different approaches to the solving the mystery.  This and their mutual attraction mpacts their relationship.

Her journey conflicts with his journey with an emotional rollercoaster.

#Somethingdifferent #Tirgearr #Saturdaymorning Your publisher sent you a T-shirt...what?!

This is exactly what's happening!  Around a hundred authors writing for Tirgearr Publishing are receiving T-shirts.  This true story will give you an insider peek of the win-win business style of Tirgearr Publishing.
In addition readers are buying them from the Tirgearr website.

Publisher Kemberlee Shortland brought a huge plastic container of 30 packaged T-shirts into her small village post office in Ireland, and the employee’s face lit with anxiety.
Kemberlee explained there were two more bins just like this in the car. “Just like this.  All envelopes are the same weight.  I won’t be doing this on a regular basis.”
“Are you running a business?” the woman asked.
Kemberlee explained she and her husband, Peter Shortland,  run a publishing company and they’d just celebrated a benchmark birthday, and the envelopes all contained T-shirts as birthday gifts to the authors.
The post office employee, Mary, seemed both surprised and shocked that the Shortlands were publishers who were giving gifts to their authors. That’s when Kemberlee brought up the website and showed her some Tirgearr books and the T-shirts. Unfortunately,  Kemberlee was out of business cards by then because they all went into the packages to show the authors she personally handpacked the T-shirts!
“Fabulous T-shirts,” Mary said, “and after work I’m looking up your website.” After a pause, she asked, “No more packages in the near future?”
Kemberlee knew the woman would have to refer her to either the general post office (GPO) in the main town which doesn’t have parking, or the sorting office which doesn’t have a counter which sells stamps.  Kemberlee assured her by saying,   “This is a once off. I’ll still be sending occasional packages, but not 70 at a time again.”  J
As they spoke, Mary was putting the stamps on the packages and stuffing them into a Santa-like sack that would go into the van that would ultimately go to the sorting office for sorting and delivery around Ireland and out to the world.
The village post office is located at the back of a small grocery store. On the way out, Kemberlee grabbed a handmade scone and a cup of tea as a treat for her effort for when she got home.
Tirgearr is a small independently-owned  publishing company of  commercial adult genre fiction whose backlist is predominantly mystery, romance, and suspense.

I'm proud to have two books with Tirgearr Publishing, Deadly Alliance and Unholy Alliance

Sometimes Love Will Be the Thing to Really Free You From Prison - Brilliant Story!
Posted May 7, 2017 on Goodreads
This review is for: UnholyAlliance: A Donahue Cousins Novel (Kindle Edition)

I was pulled into Unholy Alliance in the first sentence “Don’t let the anxiety of freedom consume you.” I enjoy stories that involve some sort of prison, both tangible and emotional, because I have always been fascinated by the power of the human spirit in overcoming time spent in prison. I also find that for many people, there is the element of an emotional prison we put ourselves in, much like the characters in this story.

Questions flowed through my mind from page one. Imagine spending all that time in prison? How would you feel if you were still afraid after being released? How will you find your missing cousin? How do you handle feelings for a man that helped you? How do you start over? Second chances abound within this story and I love how the plot unfolded, answering so many things running through my mind. I love getting to know how my character is thinking. It is done well in this book. I do find myself wanting to know more about some of the characters we are introduced to during the path of this story…maybe another book like this one will follow soon? My fingers are crossed in hope!

Kathleen Rowland just has an amazing gift with words and her storytelling. There is great attention to detail that is not forgotten while building up this intriguing plot. Again, this adds to the reader’s emotional journey along with the main character, making us feel her struggle while we read. I find the best books are like this, where you are completely invested in the characters and what happens to them.

Unholy Alliance shows us how relationships can both build you up and tear you down. How a truth you once believed can become false in an instant, and yet you can rebuild yourself from the ashes that remain. This story also shows you how love can build even when faced with unique challenges that are shown in Grady and Tori’s relationship. I loved the questions going through my mind as I read and watched their relationship unfold. And I really love the heat these two have….so steamy! I love how Tori was witty and had a good sense of humour, even after everything she had been through and is still going through. I love the vanilla cookie connection that has been created between these two! I do not want to spoil the story for anyone but I really liked that there was a hot HEA that felt satisfying and true to our main characters.

This story has all the elements you want in a read. Crime, suspense, action, intrigue, love scenes and yet it is still fun to read. You must read this book by Kathleen Rowland…you will be hooked like I was! And I love the hidden “Easter egg” at the end of the book to give us a further glimpse into the story!

#amwriting #romanticsuspense #audio Would you like to write stronger?

After returning from an after-tax-season vacation since my husband is a CPA, a handful of reviews popped up on Amazon. I appreciate all reviews even if they aren't stellar fives, but the sentence I loved most was this one from a reviewer:

The technical writing was SUPER strong. If you read any sentence, paragraph, or page in isolation, you will find nicely-assembled sentences, good descriptions and a great command of language.

Here is something super fun-- my first book on writing, How to Write Point of View, will come out on audio. Talented Chelsea Carpenter is narrating, and this book comes alive with her amazing voice. How to Write Point of View is coming at the end of July on audio, but is currently available as an eBook and paperback.
